How to Support Your Foundation

When life starts throwing rocks at you, the natural thing to do is either dodge the rocks or throw them back.

Either way, it takes a lot of time and energy. So MUCH time and energy that you start to get really tired.

When my body gets tired, I feel overwhelmed with it all and it goes downhill from there.

What if we try something different?

Start by noticing the kinds of things that will give you power. That way, when you’re getting drained dry, you’ll have a plan to give you what yourself what you need.

There is a company I know of that has purchased several electric buses. The owners are excited to get them running to save on fuel.

However, they have been waiting for quite a long time for a charging station to be built. It doesn’t look like it will be built any time in the near future.

Electric buses are a great idea, but they are doing no good sitting there. They need a foundation of electric energy in order to run.

The first step to seeing that things are going awry is to “notice.” Notice when you’re feeling tired, overwhelmed or easily provoked. Notice when you’re feeling defensive. Notice when you’re reacting with very little patience.  Notice when you are heading south when you’d rather be going north.

My coaching question for you today is this:

What are five things that you could do for yourself that would build up a more solid foundation?

That way when you feel the rocks of life coming your way you will have a structure to support you.

Do you need to go to bed earlier in order to get more sleep? Do you need to eat at a more regular time? Do you need to change your exercise routine? Or, maybe you need to listen to some inspiring music.

For me, I found that going for a walk really helps me gather my thoughts. I keep walking until I have had the time I need to process my feelings and walk them out of my system.

Sometimes I call a friend or my coach. Sometimes I make a list of all the things I’m grateful for. Yes, and sometimes I just turn around and take myself to bed.

What works for YOU?

If you did something nice for yourself every single day, just think of how much more solid your foundation will be so when the winds blow, you don’t get tossed around so easily.

There’s nothing wrong with having to go through hard times. However, going through them with a more solid foundation brings a feeling of powerful peace.
